Kristen L. Hogue, DVM

Dr. Kristen Hogue

Dr. Kristen Hogue grew up in Bowie, Maryland with a passion for animals and a dream to one day become a veterinarian. She first worked at Paws & Care Animal Hospital as a veterinary assistant while attending Trinity University as she pursued her undergraduate degree in biology. After obtaining her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell. University, Dr. Hogue returned to Maryland to complete an internship at the Anne Arundel Veterinary Emergency Center in Annapolis. She has been working in small animal practice since then, and joined Paws & Care Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in 2018. In March 2020, Dr. Hogue became the owner of Paws & Care Animal Hospital. Dr. Hogue is looking forward to the challenge of continuing the legacy of providing excellent holistic patient care and dedicated client service started by Dr. Maturo.

Dr. Hogue's professional interests include soft tissue surgery, dermatology, and exotic small mammal medicine. She is a big advocate of using Fear Free techniques in the hospital to make pets' veterinary visits less stressful! In her free time, she loves serving at her church as well as reading, running, traveling, dancing, and visiting museums.

Dr. Hogue is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) and the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association (MVMA).

Shadawn Salmond-Jimenez, DVM

Dr. Salmond-Jimenez

Dr. Salmond-Jimenez is originally from Baltimore, Md. and graduated from Tuskegee University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2006. She completed a one-year rotating internship at a specialty referral center in Mesa, Arizona immediately thereafter. Dr. Salmond-Jimenez worked in small animal practice for ten years, and then had the privilege to train and work for a prestigious veterinary ultrasound service providing care to the MD, DC and VA regions for the past five years. She joined Paws & Care Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in 2021 and became a co-owner in July, 2022. Her strong interests include diagnostic ultrasound, preventative medicine and internal medicine. Through her professional experiences and training, Dr. Salmond-Jimenez recognizes the importance of incorporating different diagnostic and therapeutic modalities to provide exceptional care for our pets.

Beyond her work, she and her husband enjoy taking care of their three young children and longtime family member, Layla Dog. In addition to work and leisure, Dr. Salmond-Jimenez is an advocate for the veterinary professionals in the state of Maryland. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and she is the past President of the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association.

Heather Dearie, DVM
Veterinarian

Dr. Heather Dearie

Dr. Dearie grew up in Maryland and has had a love for animals since she was little. She started her vet school journey at the University of Glasgow and then later transferred to the Cummings School of Veterinary Medicine at Tufts University where she graduated in 2007. After that, she went on to complete a small animal rotating internship at Paws & Care Animal Hospital. Following her internship, she joined a general practice in Massachusetts before moving back to Maryland where she has worked at several different general practices.

She has a special interest in preventative medicine and senior pet care, exotics, and parasitology. When she is not at work, she enjoys spending time with her husband and 2 children. She is also an active advocate for mental health, especially when it comes to the veterinary field. She is a volunteer and advocate for the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention and a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association as well as the Maryland Veterinary Medical Association. In her “free” time she also actively volunteers at her children’s school as a part of the PTA.
